Refilling the Cat Food Container

This week, on Thursday I had to walk up to the Physical Plant to refill the kitty food. On the way out after refilling, Mindy, I believe it was stopped me to ask about the cats. I mentioned the fact that Dot had showed up two weeks ago to eat as well. We figured that they were most likely litter mates since they have the same exact coloring, down to the white spot on the chest and the bright green eyes. I told her about the scuffle they got into ad she seemed a tad surprised, so I suppose I'll have to watch out for that kind of thing. They next day when I went to feed them, Dash came right out, but since there were other people walking around, Dot decided to go hide in the bushes this time. An old high school classmate came up and saw Dash and said she was very cute. I said she was, except for when she decides to roll around in the dirt and get brown dust all over her shiny black coat. Outdoor cats are weird.

Dash Brought a Friend Along This Time

So, once again, I have fed Dash about four more times in between my last post and now. She's as friendly as ever. Seems to be getting mouthier, but that's alright because her meow is very light and adorable.
Moving on from that...
I was very surprised when I went to feed Dash on Friday, and Dot I believe her name is, showed up. When I looked at her, i figured she must be Dash's litter mate because she has the exact same coloring, down to the white spot on her chest, as Dash does. Plus, they were rubbing up against each other, purring and purring away. I spent some time petting Dot, after petting Dash, and she was just as friendly as her sister :). Unfortunately, right before I left, I had to break up a small squabble the two got into over who got to eat first. It wasn't that bad, more of a nuisance than anything, but it made me think of the fights my own litter gets into, and I missed breaking those up for a split second. It always made me feel validated as their Mama to see them respond to my commands so quickly. Hoping to see Dot again this Friday!

Dash, Dash, and More Dash!

So, I've fed the Bell Center cats a total of four times so far and only Dash actually comes out to see me. But, that's okay because Dash is so friendly and cute that if she's the only kitty that I see, it's perfectly okay. She demands to be pet before she'll eat. She bumps your hand with her head. Or your elbow if you're busy trying to pour the food or water. And she meows. A LOT. But that is also perfectly acceptable. It reminds me of my cat, Edith, who could probably out-meow a Siamese. She was loud, and had an opinion on everything, including her entrance into a room. Anyways, Dash is simply too adorable for words, so here's a picture instead :)

See how adorable that kitty is? She has the sweetest little meow, so it's pleasant to sit there and listen to her talk. I still miss my kitties, but being able to spend time with Dash makes up for it by quite a lot actually. I can pet her and talk to her like I would with my kitties. I just can't hold her. Not that I'd want to. She likes to roll around in the dirt.
Fun Fact: Soot is my runt. She was always the runt, so when her mother stopped producing milk, Soot was the first to feel the effects. She almost died on us. I had to rub her chest to get her to breathe. That's the day they moved into my room and I began feeding them kitten formula from a syringe. Within a week, Soot was back on her feet :)

New Kitties! :)

So last night was the first Cat Alliance meeting, where new kids who want to sign up to feed the cats of Trinity could do so, and also learn more about the organization, what they do, and about some of the cats themselves. There are a lot of different feeding areas around campus. More than I, or perhaps, anybody who doesn't look for them, realizes. And the cats don't all get fed at the same time as each other; there are morning cats, lunch cats, and late afternoon cats. The number of cats per feeding area also varies. Some cats have an area all to themselves (like Valentine, the Beze cat); others share it with siblings or other cats in general (like the Art cats, or the Coates' cats).

Anyways...

I signed up to feed the Bell Center cats at 5-6 PM every Friday (this was my first choice, so I'm pretty excited). There are three cats in this area: Dit, Dot, and Dash. I believe all three are black and very friendly. They may not be my cats, but I still feel as if that just by feeding them and sitting with them for a few minutes every Friday will help me to not miss (as much) the relaxing effect that a pet seems to have on their owners.

Unfortunately, I don't have pictures of the Bell cats yet, but I do have some of my kitties :).
Fun Facts: Charlemagne is my biggest cat weighing in at a hefty 21 pounds. He's my only boy, and he's a typical tomcat. He is a very relaxed cat. The only thing that really bothers him is when you accidently step on his tail. In the picture above, he was about two months (8 weeks) old.
